Foodie Sisters: Sweet Potato Tacos

My sister and I have been cookin up a new and fancy recipe each week for the past month or two.
So I figured its about time I start sharing the goods with all of you :)

For starters: Sweet Potato Tacos

These are probably the most amazing tacos Ive ever had.
At first it struck me as strange, sweet potato's on a taco?
But as per usual, I was wrong. ha-ha

Super simple and easy and completely customizable.

What you need:

1-2 large sweet potato's
1/2 packet salsa seasoning
Tortilla shells
Toppings (what do you fancy?)
we used...
   -1/2 can black beans
   -1/2 can corn
   - 1 tomato or 1/2 can diced
   -cilantro
-2 avocado (cuz we love avocado)
   -sea salt and pepper
   -1/2 lime juice

Start by preparing your potato's. You can roast/bake/fry/microwave them. We cooked them on the stove using earth balance. This gave them a crispy outside. Add in your seasoning while the potato's are cooking.

While they are cooking start putting your topping together. Pretty simple, cut what needs to be cut, open cans, chop cilantro, and add it all together in a bowl. Squeeze lime juice in for flavor.

Once the potato's are done cooking, set aside while you brown/heat your tortilla on your non-greased pan. This is optional, i like mine crunchy.

Then load on the potato's and add on your topping. mmmm

Super easy and so good. :)

Happy Eats!

Hello there..

I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday! I had so much fun spending lots and lots of time with family.
Christmas is always a stressful time of year and Im glad all my stress has
settled down for now. I have today off of work so I have been cleaning my house like crazy!
Last night the hubbs and I made some awesome veggie chili, hit up borders and cleaned all night!
Today I have about 6 bags to bring the the salvation army, when i said cleaning i meant cleaning.
Then I might head over to Joann's and see what I can't get with my gift card. ;)
Ill be back soon with pictures and what not, just enjoying my time off of work :)

Oh and look what I woke up to the other night. Ha-ha. Shes so cute.
So we don't just have beer cases laying around our house but she must have moved this into the hallway and made it into her bed.

Tree Hunters

Each and every year my family and I go on a hunt for the perfect tree.
We wake up super early and head to breakfast at this teensy tiny little breakfast nook near
my parents house. Its one of those places that is so small, everyone looks at you when you walk in.
I love it :)

Then we take about an hour hike down south to a massive Christmas tree farm to find mr. right. This year it was almost below zero so we opted to stay in the area and took a visit to our friends pre cut tree farm. It wasn't the same but we were all so glad because we would have been miserable standing outside any longer than we had too.

Anyway, I figured I'd share a few of my favorite photos from past years as well as this years.

I love my dad in this pic. ha-ha

We have so much fun at this every year. It always turns into a big photo shoot. But of course I don't mind ;)

The Pact.

My husband and my sister made a pact. I think it is so awesome, and the reason behind it is beautiful. My husband agreed to go vegetarian for an entire month so that my sister would stop smoking. They are going on day 9 and my sister has yet to have a single cigarette! I am so proud of her. I can't imagine how hard that must be to quit cold turkey, but she feels so much better and I know she will continue to do it.

As for my husband, he is amazing. He is such a trooper and has been holding up his side of the pact just as strong. Our main challenge is finding food for him to eat. He didn't grow up eating veggies all the time so it will take some time for his taste buds to adjust, but after a trip to trader joes we were able to work a few things out. Now its time for me to step up my wife duties and keep him fed, and with variety. I am just so proud of them both.

Any one have any recipe ideas or tricks for a picky hubby gone veg? lol. please help :)

Random Post

Ohhhh boyyyy, ive got an itch for a photoshoot.
Either that or a new video
Too bad im am so busy making christmas presents
 neglecting laundry
and working, to find time for one.
But sometime soon.....

My sister is coming over tonight and
we are going to attempt to make asparagus soup...mmmmmm

It is 6 degrees today in Chicago
The cold burns my skin
It almost feels like when you hold canned air upside down and spray your skin, kind of pain.
If you've never tried that its a must. just kidding, it hurts extremely bad and leaves a welt.
When I first discovered it, I went around to every person at work and asked them if they wanted to feel something pretty sweet. They all hated me after that. yea that was pretty rude.

So that was a pretty random post.
I hope you all have a beautiful day. Im about to put on my boots and
head to work. wish me luck it is freezing out there!

Holiday Traditions....

Most people have cute and loving Holiday traditions. They usually continue this tradition each and every year because it is something you look forward to doing together and as a family.
And this is ours.....

We've missed a few years here and there, but no more games. This will be taken every year from here on out.

Do you have any creepy holiday traditions?

My favorite Place....

This is my favorite room in my house.
I love it in the spring time. I would sit here with a cup of tea
Open each window, and read a good book.
The room is in the front of our houses and so it catches all the sun.
I just love it so much.
Although, it is usually filled with clothes and purses all over.
But when its clean, its as lovely as can be.

Do you have a favorite spot like this? Do tell :)

weekend :)

My little pup is enjoying the snow more than ever this year. And he's just so darn cute.

So, this weekend flew by so quickly!!
Friday we spent some time at the firehouse. They had a parade around town and santa rode on top of the engine, and everyone went back to the station for cookies and santa pictures! All the kids were so adorable getting their pic with santa.
(one of the guys hung his daughters coat in his locker. Look how cute the pink furry looks in there!)

My sisters and I had a sister night. We made butternut squash soup, artichokes, and a chickpea kidney bean salad and watched some movies. So much fun as always.

MMMmmmmm it was so amazing. My sister just made up the recipe herself.

Wanna know something that made me super happy this weekend? I was at my parents house and my brother called me in his room. I opened the door and he was sitting at his desk drawing with a new set of pencils and all. My brother used to draw ever since I can remember. He is such an amazing artist and he was given such a  gift from God. For some reason he stopped after high school and I think it has been close to 6 years since he's drawn. Iv'e been encouraging him to start again for some time, but thats not really how it works. Since he has been out of work last week he decided to start again. Now he is like a kid in a candy store. I honestly almost cried when I saw him. That might sound weird but he was so passionate a great at it, it was a shame to see him stop. And he is all smiles about it now, I love it :)

Anyway, today I have my work Christmas party. I would rather be in my warm cozy bed. But oh well. I hope you've had an amazing weekend.

Its Snowing in Chicago!!

Nothing crazy.... but its been snowing little tiny snowflakes all night and this morning.
Not too many people are happy about this, and even thought I am always cold in the summer, I still love the snow.
I am planning a few fun photo shoots for this beautiful time of year.

On another note, I've been so busy these past few weeks. I feel like I am writing a list every 4-6 hours just to make sure I am remembering everything. My mind is on finishing a quilt, planning a friends wedding, at the hospital w/ my brother (who is finally home ;) Thinking about my poor little sunfire and wondering what the outcome will be, and just plain old worrying about people. Enough to stress a girl out. I need a weekend full of nothing. That would be wonderful ♥ and I def. need to spend more time with God. I tend to shy away when I get stressed but its when we need him the most.

I am surely but slowly getting my new Etsy shop up. Im very excited to share it with you. And I think It might be time for a little giveaway once I get it all situated.

I've started to make some of my Christmas gifts too! I've only got one down and a lot to go but I feel like Im ahead of myself already! Yay!

Well I believe it is time for me to get ready for work. Oh that wonderful 9-5. Someday you will be in my past. I am thankful for you now, but someday I will make it happen. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Today...

Today I made myself a massive list of everything I need to get done
I am hoping my mind will keep up with my body and stop getting sidetracked by this thing we call the Internet ;) So today is all about laundry, cleaning, editing pictures, meal planning, Christmas gifts, and hopefully having a beautifully clean house for when my hubby gets home. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

What a day.....

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Oh where do I even start with my day.... I woke up at 5 am today to my husband's phone call. I freaked out of course because I was all, "ughh I thought you were right next to me." I always sleep through his pager so I didn't know he was on a call. Come to find out he was done at the station, outside and walking to his car as he watched a drunk driver plow into my poor little sunfire. And then drove away. Thankfully he was stopped by the police down the road. Unfortunately we still don't know if he has insurance and since the car may be more to fix than its worth, we could be out of a car. Oh fun times!

Currently I am sitting in the ER with my family. I would appreciate any prayers for my brother who woke up with a pretty brutal headache bringing him to tears. Were not sure what's going on but I'm just praying that God has his hands on my big brother. I know he going to take care of him. And although its been a rough day I thank God we are all here and together.

I planned on doing a thankful post today because I have much to be thankful for, but I will just leave it at Family. I know everyone says this, and it makes me smile that so many people are so happy with their families because that is truely what matters. So thank you God for your love and for my family.

I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving :)

Door County: part 3

Sister Bay Festival: We spent all day at a beautiful festival filled with crafts♥ thrifting food and just plain old fun. As usual this place was so gorgeous. Everywhere you looked there were golden yellow trees and the sky was as blue as can be. I was actually shocked to see so many people out at this fest as it was very cold. It was the last festival of the season for them so I guess no one misses out on that despite the weather.  Here are a few pictures we took there.

It was also my parents 34th anniversary ♥

I hope you all have an amazing weekend! I am being very productive today and Im actually really proud of myself. Drinking pumpkin spice tea and cleaning up this mess of a house!

Dress up :)

Ohhhh Halloween. This year I told myself  I was going to think of a clever costume and finish it way before its due! But Im pretty sure I say that every year and it has yet to happen. I should just give up on that! Ha-ha I think most people can relate to that.
Saturday we were going to a friends Halloween party and after 4 hours of thrifting, I had 3 possible costumes lined up. Friday night my sister and I decided I would wear the French lady costume and she was going as a housewife. But every girl knows that your feelings on an outfit can change at any given moment…So after work on Saturday I went home tried on my costume again (just to be sure) and I had one of those- ugh this looks so stupid I don’t feel comfortable wearing this why did I think it looked ok last night and oh goodness my butt looks huge in this - moments. Ha-ha
So I called my sister and we decided on wearing similar costumes and I though, How cute! Thankfully I wore a house wife costume for our Mock Thanksgiving party we had last year. I already had the dress, shoes, and martini glass. I just needed an extra set of pearls an apron and some red lipstick.
So 3 hours before the party im sewing up a storm, trying to make 2 aprons without a pattern. I’ve never made an apron before but it looked fairly simple. We ended up finishing on time and I think they turned out wonderful! They definitely completed our outfits.
We ended up having too much fun at the party and I loved it because all of my siblings were there.

And here is my lovely husband. He was a victim of the zombie apocalypse.
He does all his own makeup and as his wife its a little embarrassing because I wouldn't even know where to start with that. He spent 4 hours on these, he built and painted each one. He's so talented.

Haha - my sisters and Mike

Door County: part 2

Fish Creek: The town we stayed in
So beautiful, and so much time with the family :)

And some very yummy lattes ♥

Today I got off of work at 12pm. But only because I have to work clinic tomorrow :(
But I would much rather get out early and go in on Saturday for some reason.

After work I spent about 4 hours thrifting and trying to piece together a costume.
I came up with three (3) different costume options that are budget friendly and fairly easy because I am so last minute of course ;) But each option seems to be missing one thing. Heres what I've got so far

1) Wheres Waldo: Red and white striped shirt. Glasses. Jeans. But I can not find a white hat! I was just going to add a red stripe and pom pon but no luck.

2) French lady: Black and White striped shirt. Red bĂ©ret. Red scarf. But I still need to find black skinny jeans or a pencil skirt that fits right.

3) 60's housewife: 2 dress options. pearls. martini glass. shoes. But no apron- but ill just throw one together if i go this route.

Im still not too sure what I should be..Ahhh decisions decisions.....

Hope you all have a wonderful Friday!

Halloween and zombie husbands!!

I love this pic of us because of it old fashioned horror movie feel :)

Just thought I would share some previous Halloween costumes!
Last year I went as a magician and my Hubbs was a zombie (like every year.. lol)

Easy costume....I had a black dress I wore to a wedding in my closet. I bought The mini top hat, gloves, and bow tie, made a wand and some magic tricks! Easy peasy and super cute :)

My husband is a miracle worker when it comes to stage make-up type stuff. So pretty much every year he does his own Zombie makeup. He is seriously amazing and does not use pre-made wounds. He creates them all himself using gelatin and some other stuff that I don't know anything about. Isn't he talented?

My little sister and her friend were Indians last year. Just a simple trip to the thrift store will do the trick
and look how cute they are!

I have a few ideas for Halloween this year but nothing too exciting, and yea im pretty last minute but Oh well!
Im thinking Katniss Everdeen for work tomorrow and Wheres Waldo for the weekend if I can throw something together. What are you being for Hallwoeen? Any ideas I can steal?? Lol. Have a wonderful night!!!
